The 2007-2008 school year was an exciting time for Foley Intermediate School students and faculty. In August, we were awarded $20,000 from the Alabama State Department of Education for closing the achievement gap in reading and math for black students and special education students. In September Mr. Bender, 4th grade teacher, and Foley Intermediate School were referenced in Boys Adrift by Dr. Leonard Sax. In October five faculty members were presenters at the international conference of the National Association for Single Sex Public Education. In March Mrs. Gay's all girl class was on the cover of the New York Times Magazine. The article featured the single gender classes at Foley Intermediate School and included a picture of Mr. Bender's all boy class. We are very proud that our students and faculty are gaining national attention. The students and staff appreciate the support shown by parents and other members of the community.
